
The Sant Cugat is BIVA – Barcelona Innovation Valley Alliance Is born
The Sant Cugat City Council, Sant Cugat Empresarial association, and around thirty companies and academic, technological, and research institutions have signed an agreement this afternoon to launch this strategic alliance.
The goal is to foster an interconnected ecosystem to make Sant Cugat a national and international benchmark for innovation and entrepreneurship.
The Alliance is composed of multinational companies like HP, Boehringer Ingelheim, GFT, Roche, and Fluidra; six universities; the ALBA Synchrotron; and entities such as ACCIÓ and the Mobile World Capital Barcelona foundation.
Sant Cugat is taking a decisive step towards innovation. This city’s commitment was solidified this afternoon with the signing of the Sant Cugat Innovation Alliance, which is backed by the City Council, Sant Cugat Empresarial, and around thirty companies and academic, technological, and research institutions.
This Alliance marks the beginning of a new phase of collaboration between the public sector, companies, entities, and academic institutions, aiming to make Sant Cugat a national and international hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Josep Maria Vallès, Mayor: “The goal is to create an interconnected ecosystem that fosters innovation, drives talent, and attracts investments. At the same time, it seeks to generate a positive impact on the quality of life and the city’s sustainable economic development.”
The Alliance is supported by prominent multinational companies, six universities (UAB, Esade, ETSAV-UPC, UIC Barcelona, Gimbernat University Schools, and La Salle); the ALBA Synchrotron; and public national bodies like ACCIÓ and the Mobile World Capital Barcelona foundation.
The signing event, which took place in the City Council’s Plenary Hall, was hosted by a virtual presenter created by the tech company GFT and featured speeches by the Mayor, Josep Maria Vallès; the Councilor for Business, Innovation, and Internationalization, Albert Salarich; the President of Sant Cugat Empresarial, Eduard Torres; and Dr. Josep Miquel Piqué, an expert in innovation ecosystems from Ramon Llull University. The 32 founding members signed the Alliance through a technological system, also provided by GFT, which enabled real-time monitoring of the process.
